“Democrats for Democracy” will move campus organizing forward

Democrats are committed to win with grassroots organizing, but here in Massachusetts it’s the College Democrats who really bring fun and a youthful touch to organizing. Partnering with our friends at BluFund.org, CDM is proud to announce the Democrats for Democracy Contest! Participating chapters across the state will compete for a chance to win up to $500 in prizes in three categories: voter registration, volunteer recruitment, and a viral video contest.

Many chapters have already begun to reaffirm our party’s commitment to democracy by registering voters all across the state on Tuesday, September 23rd, or National Voter Registration Day. Members of many chapters have also joined Democrats from across Massachusetts, hitting the pavement and knocking on doors to spread our positive, progressive message. This partnership will only deepen the commitment that college students have to electing a progressive Democratic ticket this November, starting with our nominee for Governor, Attorney General Martha Coakley and nominee for Lieutenant Governor, Steve Kerrigan.

Now, CDM chapters can be rewarded for their hard work by recruiting grassroots volunteers from across the Commonwealth. The top three chapters that sign up the most volunteers through BluFund.org will win a cash prize (first place is $500,  second place is $200 and third place is $100).  All universities and colleges in the state of Massachusetts are eligible and encouraged to compete in the “Democrats for Democracy” contest, volunteer recruitment is limited to students with university emails from each chapter.

Want to organize through social media this fall? CDM chapters can also express their enthusiasm for democracy by creating the best viral video that demonstrates Democratcy in Action on campus. Students will be encouraged to make a fun video expressing the Top 5 Reasons to Volunteer this fall or the Top 5 Reasons Why it’s important to Vote this election.

Submissions will be judged by the College Democrats of Massachusetts E-board and BluFund.org, with winning submissions receiving monetary prizes. Chapters can discuss the importance of voting in this election, among other topics, in their video submissions.
