Regional Directors

Welcome to our Regional Directors page! These leaders represent chapters in the Boston Region, Central Region, Eastern Region, South Shore Region, and the Western Region. In order to contact our leaders, please click on the icons at the bottom of each bio.

Boston Regional Director: Casey Liston, Northeastern

Casey Liston is a fifth-year undergraduate student at Northeastern University, studying health sciences and political science. A native Floridian and Bostonian by choice, Casey is passionate about reproductive rights, health care accessibility, gender equity, and higher education. Her political experience includes campus organizing for Hillary Clinton, Martha Coakley, and Ed Markey; legislative advocacy for reproductive health and higher ed affordability policies; and serving on the CDM Finance Committee and Northeastern College Democrats executive board. She is an alumna of the Emerge Massachusetts political training program (2016). Additionally, Casey has worked for Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts and the Office of Attorney General Maura Healey. In the future, Casey intends to pursue a career as Leslie Knope.

Boston Deputy Regional Director: Nathan Worob, Northeastern

Eastern Regional Director: Jaya Khetarpal, Tufts University

Jaya Khetarpal is a blue girl from the red state of Texas where her democratic beliefs and liberal values grew strong amidst numerous challengers. Before moving to Boston to attend Tufts University, Jaya participated in Juniors Statesman of America, serving as a Publicity Agent on the state cabinet and the Publicity Chair of her school’s chapter where she worked on numerous projects promoting awareness about human trafficking and women’s rights. Along with pursuing an International Relations Major and Child Development minor, Jaya volunteers for Generation Citizen-an organization that works to promote civic engagement and empower young individuals to become engaged and effective citizens-, is campaign coordinator for Tufts for Hillary, and an active member of Tufts Democrats planning board. Jaya served as a fellow on the Hillary Clinton Campaign in New Hampshire and volunteered on the campaigns of Windy Davis and Maggie Hassan. Currently, Jaya is interning in the Trial Division at Attorney General Maura Healey’s office and spends her free time tutoring children through Child Health Services and volunteering with the coordinated campaign effort in Manchester, NH. Jaya is committed to putting democrats into office up and down the ticket on both the state and national level and hopes to expand the College Democrats chapter base and promote more inter-collegiate events.

Eastern Deputy Regional Director: Riann Tang, Wellesley

Riann is a sophomore at Wellesley College hailing from Lebanon, New Hampshire. Her favorite Democrat is Huma Abedin. Growing up in a swing state, home to the first in the nation primary, she has always been surrounded by politics. Her first foray into elections was as a volunteer with the Obama campaign in 2012. Since then, she has continued to be heavily involved in Democratic politics. This winter, she was a fellow with Hillary for New Hampshire and this summer she is doing campaign work with the Blue Lab. On campus, Riann is the Organizing Director of Wellesley Students for Hillary as well as a member of Wellesley Whiptails Ultimate Frisbee and Model UN. When she's not avidly watching CNN, you can find Riann catching up on Grey's Anatomy and Madame Secretary.

Central Regional Director: Hannah Smith, Clark University

Hannah J. Smith is a rising sophomore at Clark University majoring in Political Science and the current Campus Events Coordinator for the Democrats of Clark University. She has always been politically active and was #ReadyForHillary as a child and still is to this day. Her goals for the year include: registering as many new voters as possible, helping Democrats win any seat possible, expanding the City of Worcester's accessibility for all members of College Democrats of Massachusetts and chartering a handful on new chapters in the Central Region. Hannah is extremely excited to join the CDM membership team where she hopes to bring as many students as possible in the general election process while maintaining their engagement after the election season concludes.

Western Regional Director: Anton Tikhomirov, UMass Amherst

"I am a rising Senior at UMass Amherst. My first involvement in Democratic activism was volunteering to canvass for Elizabeth Warren's campaign against Scott Brown. Fall of 2014, I interned on Martha Coakley's campaign for governor. I joined UMass Democrats my first semester at UMass, and was previously membership coordinator. I am also involved in UMass Student Government."

Western Deputy Regional Director: Sam Hockenbury, UMass Amherst

Samuel Hockenbury is from Hopedale MA, and currently attends the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Sam is pursuing a dual degree in Economics and Political Science. He has been an active member of the UMass Dems for the past year serving as the deputy/interim membership director, and now is the Communications Director. He got into politics through his love of History and the Revolutionary Era, and identifies as a Roosevelt/Obama Democrat. His main focus in the upcoming year is not only continuing to build cross chapter bonds in the western region, but adding more schools. The upcoming year will be busy with election fever, and the start of a new Presidential administration, and Sam would like to capitalize on the political energy.
